Get Away From The Regular Fare In Galicia

When you get up from lounging around on the white sands beach of Lagoa Ribeira, Coruña, or the fine white sand dune beach of Limens Cangas Pontevedra, be sure to pat yourself on your suntanned back, both to get the sand off, and to congratulate yourself for your excellent choice of a vacation spot in Galicia, Spain.

After you've taken in enough of the sun's ray, you can then walk up to a beach bar and order yourself something cold and refreshing, like a tasty Estrella or if you're in the mood for something more, a traditional drink might be in order, Orujo de Galicia (also called "aguardiente" or firewater) a high alcohol content drink, native to Galicia.

For lunch you might decide to have a serving of lacón con grelos (salted ham with turnip tops). Lacón is the pork from the cooked front leg of the pig, and grelos are the budding top leaves of small turnips. Boiled and served together with a chorizo, the piquant Spanish sausage, and potatoes called cachelos, lacón con grelos promises to leave you fulfilled.

Or if you're in the mood for something simpler, caldo gallego is a common Galician dish that consists of cabbage, potatoes, beans and ham. Finish that off with a tasty churro, and then you can head back to the beach or wander around the local markets for something to cook up (or have someone cook up) for dinner.

You certainly knew what you were doing when you booked this vacation to Galicia. It's only proper that you reward yourself for your efforts while you're there!
